Ty Wellik, a member of the Huron High School Girls Rowing Team, has committed to accept a scholarship to attend the University of Michigan in the Fall of 2012 and row for the UM Women's Rowing Team.
Ty, who attends Community High but resides in the Huron High School area, has been a four-year letter winner in rowing for Huron. She attended the US Rowing Junior National Team Identification Camp and the US Rowing Junior National Development Camp. She is skilled in rowing both small-boats and sweep boats, and took a silver medal in the women's high school single scull at the 2010 Michigan Club Championships. As a member of the River Rats her fours and eights boats have won numerous regatta medals and first place finishes; won the gold medal and State Title at the 2010 Michigan State Scholastic Championship; earned multiple medals at the 2009 and 2010 regional Midwest Scholastic Championships; won a fourth place in 2009 and a silver medal at the 2010 Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association Championships; and a fourth place in 2009 and a bronze medal in 2011 at the US Scholastic National Championships. In addition her boats have earned three consecutive entries for Huron in the prestigious Head of the Charles international Regatta in Boston in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Just as significant, Ty is a four-year recognized scholar-athlete and has been a member of the National Honor Society since her sophomore year. Ty plans to study engineering at Michigan.
